Title: Who is Ree?

Introduction:

Where I am, Who I am, and the family I love. Get to know me and the dynamics of my life here.

Where am I? -

Oklahoma - I have lived in the same small town for as long as I can remember. Within the city limits, it has a population just shy of 3,000 people. Yes you read that correctly, 3,000 people. I grew up just on the outskirts of the town and was raised in a household with my Dad, an Oklahoma State Trooper, my mom, a Pre-K4 teacher and my older sister, by about 3 years. While the city limit's population seems small, I consider myself part of the 15,000 people who live in entire county.

Who am I? -

Here are a few things you should know about me as we start this adventure.

This list is not inclusive. There will be more foundational details about me in later posts.

  1. I am NOT a professional writer. You've probably already figured this out by what you've read so far.

  2. I graduated with a biology degree in 2009 from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, which is 30 minutes south of my hometown. I graduated in 2010 with a masters of technology in biotechnology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Do I use my degrees in my career today? Nope, never really have aside from the 1 year I taught high school science.

  3. My real name is Randi. My sister had been married for 10 years when she had my niece. She was the first child born in our family, the first girl, the first niece, the first grandchild to my parents. All this to say, our world revolved around this girl! I had hoped to be called "Auntie Randi." However, my niece had other plans. When she was old enough she started to call me Ree and the name stuck and now this is what my entire family calls me.

  4. I'm a lot. This means I was the baby of my family, spoiled rotten by my dad and now by my husband. I tell the truth, even to my own detriment (no I haven't always done this. More to come about my salvation in Jesus Christ). I have big ideas. I make lists. I like plans. I don't like change. I get excited. I get sleepy. I like to make amends face-to-face rather than texting. I thrive on criticism and get embarrassed when praised. I have a temper sometimes that could burn the world down. And so much more, but as you see, I'm A LOT!

My family -

Husband, Casey: Everyone knows everyone in a small town, right? So how have I not officially met this man that wonders into my place of employment occasionally. Finally, we were properly introduced. Our first date what December 18, 2017 and we told my parents we were getting married on January 16, 2018. We tied the knot a few months later on May 12, 2018. More to come about this man as he is one of my favorite topics to talk about. Mady (age 16) and Kamri (age13): I always thought of myself as being born to be an aunt or a stepmom because I like to have fun and play, rather than the rules, routines and discipline that comes with being a mom (yuck!). Well Mady and Kamri are my stepchildren, AKA Bonus Kids (because I'm far too cool to be a stepmother). I met Casey and we were married when Mady was 9 and Kamri was 6. More to come about our relationships, stories and step-parenting (no I don't have it all figured out). Logan Joy (age 8):

You may have already done the math on this one, but Logan Joy is my biological child and we met Casey when she was 18 months old. Remember me saying I was "born to be an aunt and a stepmom," well surprise, and that she was. But oh what a blessing! She's my right hand gal, spunky and fierce. More to come on our first 18 months and transitioning to adding a stepdad and 2 sisters. Conclusion: This is me and the layout of my life and my immediate family. I'm sure there are things I've forgotten. However, what you have here, I hope demonstrates the dynamics of my life and family and lays the foundation for a story while reading my blogs.

My family in December 2024. Left to Right: Ree (that's me), Casey, Mady, Kamri and Logan Joy, in the front.
